Sciatica is the inflammation of the sciatic nerve, usually marked by pain and tenderness along the course of the nerve on through to the leg and thigh. Treatments to sciatic nerve pain are pretty simple, but they can take some time. The treatments to sciatic nerve pain almost all come down to rest, but there are a few medications you can take to calm the pain. A couple medications used to dismiss the pain are analgesics and muscle relaxants. An analgesic is a remedy that relieves or allays pain, and a muscle relaxant is a drug that reduces muscle contractility by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses or by decreasing the excitability of the motor end plate or by other actions. Even though medications will relieve the pain, try and stay away from them because of the side effects. Since pain from the sciatic nerve can be set off by the simplest movements, such as; standing up, sitting, walking, or even laying down, you need to keep rested with as little movement as possible. If the pain is unbearable try taking a nice warm bath, but make sure not use a heating pad on the affected sciatic nerve, this could draw the inflammation in, keeping the swelling high. If the swelling is high try icing it down for about one hour on and off, taking breaks every twenty minutes or so. Massage therapy from a chiropractor can be very helpful, making it a little easier to move around and rest without the pain. There are many alternative treatments, a few suggestions are acupressure and acupuncture, herbal therapies, homeopathy, and biofeedback. An acupressure is a type of massage in which finger pressure on the specific bodily sites described in acupuncture therapy is used to promote healing, alleviate fatigue, etc. An acupuncture is a Chinese medical practice or procedure that treats illness at specified sites of the body. Herbal therapies are individual herbs or mixtures of herbs that are used for therapeutic value. Homeopathy is the method of treating disease by drugs, given in minute doses, that would produce in a healthy person symptoms similar to those of the disease. Lastly, biofeedback is a method of learning to control one's bodily functions by monitoring one's own brain waves, blood pressure, degree of muscle tension, etc. Surgery should be last on your list to treat sciatic nerve pain as it has been known to cause even more damage in many cases. Also surgery for this, usually only cures a small amount of people out of all the people with this problem. Try finding a treatment that works best for you and stick with it, also stretching and exercising can only help.
Back Pain On Right Side
Back pain can be a very discouraging problem, slowing you down, not letting you do what your use to. Back pain can affect the right side, left side, lower right, lower left, and the center of your back, but just pain on the right side could mean many things. Most back pains are caused by strains and sprains, but they will heal their selves over rest and a period of time. It will also take stretching to get back in shape. Another possibility to cause back pain on the right side would be a hernia, most likely causing pain to lower back, left or right side. If you have a hernia make sure you visit a doctor, chances are you're going to have to get surgically removed. Once you have it removed, you may have to rest for a little while, but make sure to exercise and strengthen your back. Also, it could be irritable bowel syndrome causing you back pain. Irritable bowel syndrome is a condition that causes a range of pain and symptoms, such as nausea, gas, and bloating. If you have irritable bowel syndrome make sure you drink lots of water and eat healthy food. You may have to visit a doctor to possibly receive medications. Lastly you could be suffering from an infection. Having an infection will cause pain that starts as a dull ache and gradually increases intensity. An Infection is also accompanied by other symptoms, and it is probably a good idea to see a doctor. Dealing with a non-specific case of back pain can be challenging but is very important. The number one treatment for back pains and recovering from pains is exercising and stretching. Many exercises and stretches pinpoint exactly and only on the back, aiming to strengthen back muscles and to rehabilitate the spine. Since not all back pains are non-specific and heal over time, you may have to visit a doctor to end your back pain once and for all. There is one other main cause for back pain to the right or left side and that cause is pregnancy. Don't worry though there are many ways to relieve back pain during pregnancy. One way to relieve pain during pregnancy is to take it easy, relax, and rest. Lower Back Pain Right Side

Pain from Herniated disk can also be worsened by movement and can be a sudden and intense pain. Osteoarthritis also makes it hard to move with a nagging pain worsened by movement. Spinal stenosis is an aching pain and it may be difficult to move. Spinal stenosis can be triggered by injury or overuse. Osteoporosis has a sharp aching pain which is triggered by everyday activities. Osteoporosis can be worsened by prolonged sitting or standing and can force you to have a stooped posture. Sprains and strains are worsened by any movement and also they will make moving difficult. Sprains and strains are accompanied by weakness, numbness in leg or foot. Spinal tumor has a nagging pain which can be accompanied by change in bowel or bladder function, leg or foot pain, and weakness. Spinal tumor can be worsened by rest or inactivity. If a herniated disk is whats causing you back pain, then you should drink lots of water, eat healthy, swim, and lie down on a bed in a prone position in order to put your spine in a better position. If osteoarthritis is whats causing you back pain, then you should exercise often with a healthy diet, also you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever to dismiss some pain. If it's spinal stenosis that is giving you lower back pain on the right side, to treat it you should stretch often, one stretch you could do would be leg lifts for a short period of time. To treat ankylosing spondylitis, set up an appointment with a rheumatologist, and stop smoking once you receive an ankylosing spondylitis diagnosis. If you are experiencing back problems from osteoporosis, try taking vitamin supplements to strengthen your bones and also exercise on a regular basis. To treat sprains and strains, do lots of stretching such as; arching, and touching your toes. If a spinal tumor is whats causing you back pain on the lower right side, figure out if spinal tumors run in the family, to help indicate risk factors and make sure to see a doctor, you may have to get it surgically removed. If you get your spinal tumor removed, you're going to need to rest, stretch, and exercise often if you want to get back to 100%.
Lower Right Back Pain
Back Pains are one of the most popular complaints doctors hear about. Lower right back pains are caused when muscles are strained, ligaments are torn, joints are injured, bones are fractured, nerves are irritated, discs are herniated, and stress can tighten back structure. If you're working out to often, or sitting at your computer to often, or even sleeping in the wrong position, you could be straining your back causing pains in the lower back. There are muscles in which support your spine, such as the extensor muscles, the flexor muscles, and the oblique muscles, if any of these muscles gets strained it will cause a sharp consistent pain. Symptoms of lower right back pains could mean two things; if your pain is a deep, aching, burning pain and feels as if it travels down your leg, you're probably experiencing chronic back pain, but if your pain is very sharp, deep in the lower right part of your back, this could be the result of a back injury. Slow Gentle exercises every day could slowly bring down the pain in your back and bring it back to 100%. Exercising is the most important thing you can do if you have non-specific back problems. An easy wonderful stretch for the lower back is called the “camel stretch” to do this stretch kneel on the ground with your hands placed in front of you. Keep your head up and facing forward at all times. Stretch your back so your hips and buttocks are in the air, hold the stretch for 5-10 seconds, do this stretch multiple times in one day. Another great stretch for the lower back is called the “cobra” stretch this stretch can be performed one of two ways. The first way to do the “cobra” is to lay face down, and put your hands on each side of your shoulders as if you were in the push-up position. Then extend your arms and let your lower back sag to the ground, assume the stretch for 10-15 seconds. The other way to perform the “cobra” would be to lay face down and arch your back, lifting your head as high as you can while keeping your eyes looking at the ground. Make sure you do these stretches anywhere between 5-10 times a day. Also make sure you are doing these stretches slowly and gracefully and most importantly, correct! Once you stretch, ice the affected area of the back for 15 minutes on and off. If you have lower right back pains and you stretch and rest, and the pain just doesn't go away, make sure you see a doctor or chiropractor, your back could be seriously injured.
Lower Left Back Pain
Lower left back pain is a common area for back pain, and it is caused by many things. Lower left back pain can be caused by poor posture, improper use of muscles, lifting to much weight with your back. The lower back is basically a supporter to the upper body, if you sit in a computer chair for hours upon hours you will strain your lower back and possibly get a back injury. It's hard to believe, but the number one cause of lower back pain is actually kidney stones. Kidney stones are actually very easy to spot for a doctor. The number two cause for lower back pain is gastrointestinal problems, these are problems in the stomach and intestine. This type of pain comes and goes, and usually comes in a pattern. To avoid lower back pains stretch before running or jogging, and if you know you are going to be sitting at your computer for a long time, plan for breaks, take them and reposition yourself. If your having lower left back pains follow these easy steps to feel pain free without visiting a doctor; hold an ice pack where your back hurts for five minutes, heat the affected area with a hot shower or a heating pad, take an over-the-counter pain killer, and stretch your back by laying face down with your hands behind your back while arching your back. Sleeping with back pain can be very tough, try finding a comfortable position. Also when your sleeping try to reposition your self every 1-3 hours, this way your back won't strain for a long period of time. To strengthen your back and reduce chances of having back problems try natural activities, such as walking, swimming, and even riding a bicycle. Also try joining a yoga program, this seems to be one of the best activities for strengthening back muscles. If you're currently having back pains take it easy by resting, walking, and lightly stretching. Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons for visiting a chiropractor. Chiropractors deal with pain, joint pain, back pain, muscular pain, but also hip pain and leg pain caused from the lower back. If you go to see a chiropractor they aren't just going to look at the pain, they are also going to try and get the whole system working better. Which overtime will keep you from having having back problems and pains.
Lower Back Pain Left Side
If you are experiencing back pain on the lower left side, chances are your experiencing Acute back pain or Chronic back pain. Lower back pain on the left side or Acute/Chronic back pain is usually described as very sharp pain if it's acute, and it is usually very deep pain if it is Chronic back pain. Also if it is Chronic back pain it is usually feels like your muscles are burning. Acute and Chronic back pain can be found in more than one area of the lower back, besides the left side it also can be found in the center, and right side. Both back pains can come in and out but is usually very consistent. There is no official cause of these types of back pains, but just like any other back pain it can be caused by trauma or injury. Most back pains are caused by trauma. Acute back pains usually heal twice as fast as Chronic back pains and are considered short-term back problems. If your not sure what exactly caused your back pain, I recommend going to a doctor or physiotherapist and have an assessment. They will tell you exactly what you have and how to treat it. There are three types of lower left side back pain, and these include Non-specific lower back pain fortunately this is probably what you have. There is also Nerve root irritation which is rare and chances are you don't have this. Lastly if you don't have the other two, then you have serious back problems, but don't worry less than 1% of all people with back problems have serious back related problems. Non-specific back pain describes all types of non serious back related problems, in which case cause pain to the left side. If you have non-specific back pain it should heal it self if rested within six to eight weeks. Here are some possible non-specific back pain problems Facet Join Strain and Muscle Spasm, Sacroiliac Joint Pain, Aging Changes, and Referred Pain. Facet Join Strain and Muscle Spasm are from facet joints becoming sore and muscle spasm will try and protect it, muscle spasm is where your muscles tighten up and thats what causes the pain in your lower back. Sacroiliac Joint Pain is caused when your sacroiliac joint, a very stable joint, has to much movement or to much movement restriction. Aging Changes are cause from changes in the joints as we age and can cause stiffness and pain in the lower back. Referred Pain is caused from pain that is felt away from the actual site of the problem, which means pain in one location could cause pain in a whole other location.
Upper Left Back Pain
Most cases of upper left back pain involve the muscles and ligaments which attach to the vertebrae. The vertebrae is a set of bones which make up the spinal column. Ligaments and muscles can be torn in any series of physical activities such as stretching, exercising, and lifting weights. If a ligament or muscle is stretched to much it can be strained, which can be cause by stretching or exercising to much or even by stretching improperly. Pain in upper left part of the back usually develops over time and is considered an aching pain. If you are experiencing pain in the upper part of your back movement may be restricted to near by muscles. You also may feel pain when breathing or when the affected area is touched. Upper back pain can occur from trauma or serious injury almost instantly, or can come over time with poor posture or bad sleeping habits. They might even be caused by your pillow. It also can come from carrying to much weight such as pregnancy, or even by carrying a heavy backpack or bag for a long period of time. To avoid back problems caused by sleeping avoid sleeping on the ground, or on a couch. Also try repositioning yourself during the night and make sure you have a comfortable pillow. If your looking for a way to treat your upper back problems try icing the painful area 3-5 times a day, talk to your doctor about a medicine you can take, or even exercises or stretches for the upper back. If you work on the computer for long periods of times make sure you take breaks and do some stretching, this way you won't strain your back. Upper back pain can also be caused by whiplash, which is caused by injury to the soft tissues in your neck. Upper back stretches can be used to loosen and reduce injuries to the upper back, stretches such as; standing with your feet parallel and shoulder width apart hold your hands behind your back with your fingers interlocked, Breathe in smoothly through your nose as you try to touch your elbows together at the same time, keep your head tilted toward your chest. Make sure you stretch slowly and gracefully, and when you feel the stretch make sure to hold the position anywhere between 10-15 seconds. Never continue the stretch if you feel pain, this is very important and If you keep stretching it could result in serious injury to the upper back. If you continue to feel pain make sure you visit a doctor or a chiropractor, they will tell you exactly what is wrong with your back and exactly how to treat your type of upper left back pain.
